Day 1: Getting Started
Install Leia, sign in, and have your first conversation. This should take about 15-20 minutes.
What You Need
- An iPhone running iOS 17 or newer (check: Settings > General > About > iOS Version). Works best on iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
- At least 4GB of free space (check: Settings > General > iPhone Storage)
- A Wi-Fi connection for the initial download
Step 1: Get TestFlight
TestFlight is a free app from Apple that lets you try apps before they're released to everyone.
- Open the App Store on your iPhone
- Search for TestFlight
- Tap Get to download it (it's free)
- If you already have it, you're good to go
Step 2: Open the Invite Email
- Check your email on your phone for a message about Leia — it comes from Apple and mentions "TestFlight"
- Can't find it? Check your spam or junk folder. Still can't find it? Let us know and we'll resend it.
- Open the email and tap View in TestFlight
- Tap Accept when asked to join the beta
Step 3: Download and Open Leia
- In TestFlight, tap Install next to Leia
- The download is about 3GB (the size of a movie) — this is because Leia's brain runs entirely on your phone
- Wait 3-5 minutes for the download to finish on Wi-Fi
- Tap the Leia icon on your home screen
- You'll see a shield animation — Leia is loading. This takes about 30-60 seconds the first time. This is normal.
Having trouble?
- No email invite: Let us know — we'll resend it
- Download stuck: Make sure you're on Wi-Fi with enough storage
- App won't open: Close it completely (swipe up from bottom, swipe Leia away), wait a few seconds, reopen
- Something else: Take a screenshot and send it to us
Step 4: Sign In
- Choose Sign in with Apple (recommended) or Continue with Google
- Follow the prompts to complete sign-in
- You may see a Face ID toggle — this is optional. Turn it on if you want Leia to require Face ID each time you open the app.
Step 5: Initial Setup
- "Welcome to Leia" — Tap Get Started
- "Power up Leia" — You can connect Gmail or Calendar here. This is optional — tap Skip if you're not sure. You can always connect these later.
- Loading screen — Wait for the progress bar to finish (30-60 seconds)
If you connect Gmail, you may see "Google hasn't verified this app." This is normal for beta apps. Tap Advanced, then Go to Leia (unsafe). Despite the scary name, this is safe — we only read email subject lines, never the content.
Step 6: Getting to Know You
Leia will ask you a few questions to learn about the people in your life.
- You'll see: "Walk me through your week — who are the people you deal with most?"
- Tap the green circle button at the bottom
- Speak naturally, like you're talking to a friend. Mention people by name.
- For example: "I work with Sarah on the sales team, and I talk to my contractor David almost every day. My wife Priya keeps reminding me about weekend plans."
- Leia will show you the names she picked up and may ask a follow-up question or two
- When done, you'll see a summary. Tap Done.
Don't want to do the interview right now? Tap Skip in the top right. You can always do it later from Settings.
Optional: Enable Leia's Voice
Leia can speak her responses out loud if you have a high-quality voice installed on your iPhone. This is optional but makes the experience much better.
- Open your iPhone's Settings app
- Go to Accessibility → Read & Speak → Voices
- Tap English
- Find a voice you like and tap the download button next to it (look for ones labeled "Premium" — they sound the most natural)
- Wait for the download to finish, then go back to Leia
If Leia detects a Premium voice on your phone, she'll use it automatically. If not, she'll respond with text only.
Tell us
- Did signing in work smoothly?
- Did the setup screens show up in order? Anything broken or confusing?
- How long did the loading take?
- Did Leia pick up the right names from what you said?
- Did she put people in the right groups (Work, Family, Friends)?
- How long between when you finished speaking and when Leia responded?
- If you set up voice: did Leia speak her responses? How did it sound?
